DLI (Dual Language Immersion) – English & Spanish

Albany County School District #1 offers a Spanish & English Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program at Slade Elementary School for students in 1st – 4th grades and at Indian Paintbrush Elementary School for students in 5th grade.

This information is for families who are interested in applying for the kindergarten DLI lottery at Slade Elementary School. Slade will hold a lottery in early April for incoming kindergarteners to begin DLI in 1st grade.

Beginning in 1st grade, students in the DLI Program are taught grade-level academic content in both languages with a focus on Spanish Language Arts and Mathematics in Spanish and Literacy instruction in English. During the 4th grade year, instruction in Mathematics switches to English and Literacy instruction changes to Spanish. The benefit for students is to develop bilingual and biliteracy skills that promote academic achievement and cross-cultural competence. At this time, the DLI program in ACSD#1 is a one-way immersion program with predominantly native English speakers.

Please note the following:

✓ Completing the application process does not guarantee enrollment in the DLI program.

✓ Families who are offered spots in the program must confirm their desire to be in the program by that Friday.

✓ Accepted kindergarten students will enroll at Slade Elementary for Kindergarten. DLI instruction will begin in 1st grade.

There are two requirements to apply for the DLI lottery at Slade: Attend the Dual Language Immersion informational session in March in the Slade Elementary School cafeteria located at 1223 E Shield Street and complete the online application by the deadline date in April.
